Now we are used to hearing rumors about larger displays and the likelihood that we will see at least one handset with a considerably larger display that the iPhone 5s's 4-inch seems even stronger than ever. The Wall Street Journal has jumped on the band wagon suggest that Apple may be planning two new iPhones this year. The suggestion is that one of the devices will have a display in excess of 4.5 inches while the second handset will exceed the 5 inch mark. This idea has already been suggested and it didn't come to fruition. Up until the iPhone 5, Apple has always stuck to their 3.5 inch display and even though they have pushed the boundaries slightly, the current iPhone 5c and 5s seem very small when compared to other smartphones on the markets. If the reports are correct, things look set to change dramatically and while the current line-up sees the iPhone 5s's premium finish contrast the polycarbonate exterior of its counterpart, the report also suggests that the iPhone 5c will be scrapped when the new devices become available. The two new devices are expected to have a higher-end, aluminum treatment as far as the outer shell goes, so while some people may have enjoyed the colorful nature of the iPhone 5c, it would seem that Apple isn't that keen. The rumor is that the iPhone 6 with have a Touch ID sensor with improved efficiency and it is reportedly going into production in the second quarter of this year. The most distinguishing feature of the iPhone 5s is the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. This made it unique and it stands out from all the other smartphone models on the market. According to a recent report from DigiTimes, the TSMC, Apple's supplier for the fingerprint sensors, is not only gearing up to initiate production in the second quarter of this year, but also on a larger scale, in hopes to meet the production needs and demands for the upcoming iPhone 6 that will be released later this year. According to the report, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is not only going to being production, but they are also moving the manufacturing process from an 8-inch fab to a much larger 12-inch fab, which will help increase production efficiency for meeting larger volume demands. TSMC will also be handling the packaging of Touch ID sensors itself instead of outsourcing the process, ensuring that it has more control over the entire process. The report also suggest that the process will be carried out using a 65nm process, which is going to further help improve production capacity and eliminate waste. For the last generation iPhone 5s, TMSC contracted Xintec, China Wafer Level CSP and Advanced Semiconductor Engineering for the shipping and packaging of the sensors. For the next iPhone they are going to do it all themselves and outsource the packaging of Qualcomm's chips externally. From a consumer perspective, this may not be a very big piece of news but it does indicate that not only Apple, but their suppliers are all in favor of putting the customer needs first. The iPhone is one of the most popular pieces of hardware on the market today and it makes sense to put that first and ensure that production volumes can be met.

It really was only a matter of time before the iPhone 6 rumors began. Rumors have come for a Far East based website who have gone into a lot of detail about Apple's current plans and testing schedule for next year's model. It has become fairly normal for people to speculate on the next launch as soon as the current generation device has been launched. The website in question has an inconsistent success rate when it comes to predictions about Apple products, but the published rumors do seem to tie in nicely with previously published commentary from KGI Securities. To be honest, we really don't know anything about the next generation iPhone that is set to be released. We are assuming it will be under the name iPhone 6 but Apple has a great track record of keeping internal projects and secrets away from the public eye. With that said, both Ming-Chi Kuo and the recent C Technology article both seem to agree that next year's iPhone will feature a larger touch-screen, potentially up to 5 inches. Kuo believes that any future iPhone will never breach the 5 inch display mark purely because of Apple's insistence that the device remains usable in one hand. Most of the rumors going forward are likely to be centered around the display of the new device and whether or not Apple will follow the current market trend of producing smartphones with huge displays or stick to their current 4 inch offering. In addition to today's rumors, we also heard suggestions that Apple could be about to jump on the curved bandwagon by creating an iPhone with glass that wraps around the body of the device. You can be sure that rumors will continue to fly right the way through to the launch of next year's device and whether Apple choose to follow their competitors and create a larger display really is anyone's guess. It looks like Apple is interested in launching new, larger iPhones and Bloomberg have just gotten in on the rumor action too which means we won't be seeing the last of these rumors for any time soon. Bloomberg is reporting that Apple are going to launch not one but two larger iPhone models. The source, which hasn't been named, reportedly told Bloomberg that Apple is set to bring a 4.7 inch device to the market late next year, with an even larger 5.5 inch device also on the cards for those that have huge hands and even bigger pockets. The iPhone 5 comes with a 4 inch display. The 4.7 inch iPhone would be a considerable jump in screen size but the 5.5 inch option would rival the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which features a display that is a massive 5.7 inches across its diagonal. It's a lot bigger than the iPhone 4S's 3.5 inch screen. Along with larger screens, Bloomberg's source claims that the devices will also feature curved screens as well as a new, pressure sensitive touch layer in later version. Bloomberg stated that two models are planned for release in the second half of next year and will feature larger displays with glass that curves downward at the edges. Senors that can distinguish heavy or light touches on the screen may be incorporated into subsequent models. We do believe that Apple is at least testing iPhones of different screen sizes, but there is a big difference between testing and getting ready to bring to market. While we wouldn't be at all surprised to see a larger iPhone launch next year, we are still a little skeptical about the idea of two new iPhones being brought out with two different screen sizes. Indeed, the 3.5-inch display of the original iPhone stayed the same until the launch of the iPhone 5 and while this slight jump up to 4 inches has given iPhone users a little more display, even the iPhone 5s and 5c cut a rather feeble figure when compared to some of the industry's real monsters. This is not the first time we have heard reports of Apple increasing the size of their display and the Wall Street Journal recently talked about the idea that Apple was thinking about making the display between 5 and 6 inches. If Apple does decide to go with this idea, you can bet that they will keep on of the 4 inch model around for a while so that they can guage just how many consumers are looking to enjoy iOS on an Android sized device. ETNews also reported on the full-size iPad that will be taking on a similar form fact to the iPad mini when it is released next month. This report also suggests that Apple is planning an 12.9-inch iPad which is due to be released some time during 2014. Finally, in their report, they included information on the so-called iWatch which will apparently feature a flexible OLED display from LG. It all sounds great and we can't wait to see how these rumors hold up and if Apple will release any of these products.

This year, however, things are a little different as we are about to see the release of two iPhones. One of these, the iPhone 5C, is a low cost or budget iPhone. Vietnamese website Tinhte, who are fairly accurate when it comes to legitimate leaks of Apple products, have gotten their hands on mockups of both the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S and have released images of both of these devices side by side. We had a look at these images and we can see the comparisons between the two handsets. While both of these smartphones are designed by the Cupertino company, they are built to serve very different purposes and the materials used and general build quality appear to differ greatly. By adding the iPhone 5 to this comparison, we can see the clear similarities between what are likely to be Apple's three main devices later on this year. The headphone jack is situated along the bottom, while each also includes the new lightning dock connector in the center flanked by different speaker holes. In terms of design, the iPhone 5S is expected to be similar to the current iPhone 5 and these images seem to confirm this. We are expecting a few hardware tweaks including a faster new processor and perhaps a 12 megapixel camera. The iPhone 5C thanks to its polycarbonate finish does look decidedly cheaper than the two higher end models, but that is not to say it doesn't still offer a stylish package. It still looks very cool and should be a big hit with budget conscious consumers. With iOS 7 now at beta 5, it won't be long before we see these devices at their official launch. The latest rumor and leaked images may just have given us a name for this new budget iPhone which we believe may be called the iPhone 5C. A new photo from Chinese website WeiPhone appears to show the packaging that the new low cost iPhone 5C will ship in. The white rear shell of what appears to be an iPhone box is clearly shown with the moniker iPhone 5C emblazoned on it. Popular speculation suggests that this �C� could stand for color which will coincide with rumor that the new budget iPhone will come in a range of colors. The box itself looks very like the boxes that the iPod touch ships in which also makes lots of sense if Apple is going to try and market the devices using the color as a major point. This will make it easy for potential customers to see the color options that are available and this will make a great marketing strategy. The iPhone 5C, if that is what is it going to be called, has been showing up in leaked photos for some time now. With a plastic shell, the handset is going to be geared towards the more budget conscious customer, whilst also appealing to people who want to have a little more color in their phones. With rumors continuing to show up, it appears that it won't be too long now before this low cost iPhone become a reality and we see people walking down the street with different colored iPhones attached to their ears.

Later this year we could see Apple release their budget iPhone and according to the latest reports, it will come in two different version which are codenamed Zenvo and Zagato. These latest rumors come from Chinese social media website Weibo, where some leaked documents have appeared. These detail exactly what the two low cost iPhones will be. Whilst we don't know for sure if these documents are fake or not, they do state that Apple will release two budget iPhone models later this year. One of these will be cheaper than the other although if the specifications are correct, this is probably a China-only model. The first of these two models is going to feature a 4-inch display and Samsung HP5 dual-core processor backed up by 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0 and FDD 4G. This model is believed to be codenamed Zenvo. The other model which is codenamed Zagato/Bertone will be exactly the same except for a H6P processor and TDD 4G LTE connectivity. It is this 4G technology that is currently being employed in China, which suggests that this model will be available here only. Getting genuine details of the upcoming low cost iPhone are hard to come by and even though more and more photos are popping up, we are still guessing about what Apple really does have up its sleeve. At this point, the rumors are just too strong to say that the handset isn't real, and its a safe bet that this new iPhone is going to be made available in multiple colors too. This low cost iPhone is expected to be released alongside Apple's regular iPhone later this year. Perhaps being called the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, this is the handset that most people will be looking to buy. Techdy has gotten their hands on the front and rear parts of this device and when placed together, they offer a very solid idea of the form this low cost iPhone will take. On first impressions, it looks incredibly similar to the Nokia Lumia 620. The Techdy website has plenty of images and a vide that describes how the device feels when held. Although this is not a complete working device in that it cannot be switched on, the two parts do give the appearance of a complete device when placed together. Techdy also goes on to say that although predominantly polycarbonate, the device doesn't feel cheap in any way. The device which is like the Lumia 920 still offers a premium feel and although we assume it doesn't quite measure up to the iPhone 5 when it comes to the standard of finish, it does go to show that even if Apple do break the mold in appealing to the mid market, they aren't going to make too many compromises on their ethos to deliver high quality devices. The device is to have a 4 inch display and a shape similar to Apple's original iPod. It certainly won't outshine the flagship iPhone, but with that said, we are impressed by what we've seen so far especially if this is a legitimate leak. This low cost iPhone could be really successful if priced right and if rumors are to be believed we could see this device coming on streat as early as next year. These are images of the rear shell and they show that there could be yellow, red and green color configurations. We have all heard a great deal about the possibility of a low cost iPhone and although Apple have not made any official suggestions, the rumors still continue to come in. A French website has added images of what look like legitimate rear shells of an unspecified iPhone and the plastic finish that they show adds to the intrigue. Apple has always stuck religiously to the black or white color configurations but with the iPod touch getting some color last year, it could be that Apple is open to change. There really is no doubt that a market exists for colorful iPhones and the likes of the Samsung Galaxy range has always offered a bunch of colors. A low cost iPhone whish is strongly suspected to be built with a polycarbonate outer in order to save on costs, could have a huge appeal, and as well as a budget price, a selection of colors would really be great. The likes of China and India are mass markets that Apple has struggled to fully capitalize so a cheaper device could work wonders. Whether or not the images show on the French website are legitimate or not is anybody's guess and Nowhereelse.fr seems to be a little hit and miss with their information. According to multiple sources, Apple is exploring the possibility of pushing display diameters up to 4.7 inches with the suggestion that an iPhone (or phablet) with a 5.7 inch screen is also part of their thought process. Should Apple decide to go ahead with this, it is something we should see at some point next year. The same report is also hinting at multiple color configurations and a $99 starting price. Is Apple about to break away from their old habits? The iPhone first launched in 2007 and right the way through to the 2011 release of the iPhone 4S, Apple has maintained the display size of 3.5 inches. Apple then released the iPhone 5 with a display up to 4 inches. This could mean that Apple are a little more open to change and with Tim Cook noting that Apple would potentially consider opening up the iOS API to allow developers to get into the guts of the mobile OS, the prospect of a 5.7 inch iPhone still seems a little ridiculous. A 4.7 inch model would be a substantial bump from the iPhone 5 and seems a little bit more realistic. More and more consumers are opting for the Nokia Lumia, Galaxy and HTC to get a bigger screen size and this could mean that Apple's hand is being forced so that they can compete. The report that we received also mentions a low cost iPhone which has been speculated for quite some time now. It states that this will come in an array of colors with perhaps 5 or 6 different options to choose from. The cost of these is set to start at $99. Getting back to the 5.7 inch iPhone, we wonder if this could ever be a reality. When you consider that this would be larger than the Galaxy Note II, we really don't think Apple will take things that far. It may happen one day but we don't think it is any time soon. New inventory listings sourced from UK carrier Vodafone suggest that Apple is making the jump to the iPhone 6 which means we should see a stronger array of changes that those we were expecting with the iPhone 5S. Many have argued that although the iPhone 5 brought a slightly larger display, svelte form factor and a relatively minor speed bump, these features don't justify a perceived major release. It has been pointed out on a number of occasions that �S� releases simply imply something of a half hearted effort and although Apple could release the same seventh generation iPhone under the name iPhone 5, releasing it as an iPhone 6 implies that we will be getting a landmark release rather than a tentative spec upgrade. Apple are under increasing pressure to improve their mobile software with iOS 7 and the kicker of an iPhone 6 in 2013 would help to ease the situation. Apple are expected to deliver iOS 7 at WWDC 2013 in June with the next generation iPhone following soon after this in September. As part of the iPhone rumor circus, one suggestion that keeps coming up is that Apple's budget iPhone is going to feature an all new polycarbonate plastic shell which is not too dissimilar to the old iPhone 3G and 3GS models. Withi this firmly in mind, one Apple rumor website has gone as far as to release images of what this budget iPhone model could look like. These images show 10 different colors and whether or not you are a fan of the idea or not will depend on your aesthetic preferences. The concepts that are shown on this website remind us of the old bubble iMacs thanks to the colours used. Still, we are not convinced that such a release is on the cards at all, let alone one that would see Apple release overly colorful iPhone bodies. Apple has been known for releasing colorful products and the current iPod models are available in a variety fo colors but the iPad and iPhone ship in just blank or white. Offering a cheaper, less well equipped iPhone in multiple colors may appeal to some, but Apple may be wary of diluting its own market. People might actually prefer to buy the colorful models and this would slow down sales of the higher end metal products. At this point all we can really say is that the rumor surrounding a budget iPhone are not going to go away any time soon and we can expect to see a lot more rumors surfacing in the run up to the annual WWDC conference later this year.

According to a research note from Ming-chi Kuo of KGI Securities both of these devices have been hit with delays. The release date for the iPhone 5S was though to be July with announcement in June but now it appears that neither of these devices will be hitting the markets any time soon. Kuo touches on a number of reasons for Apple's struggles with the two devices in his report and among these is that there is difficulty integrating the heavily-rumored new fingerprint sensor into the iPhone 5S. The fingerprint sensor looks set to be among the numerous features that are being added to the upcoming device, but if Kuo's words are to be believed, the feature may be causing more than a bit of a design headache. He stated that �Apple has to work out how to prevent interference from the black and white coating material under the glass.� No other company has attempted anything like this before on mobile devices so Apple can't look at any existing designs for inspiration or possible workarounds. As well as the iPhone 5S, the next generation iPad mini is also proving to be a little more problematic than first thought and manufactureres seem to be having difficulty with the new retina disply panels. Kuo does however remain optimistic and he reckons that that these devices will make an appearance in the third quarter of this year, and even though no dates have been given, it looks like we might see a similar sequence of events as we did back in 2012.
