The new fifth generation iPad has been entirely revamped with a thinner and lighter overall design. It's also more compact, boasts some tidy new display tech and it's been given a new name: iPad Air. The new iPad Air is 20% thinner that the last generation iPad 4. The bezels are 43% thinner and it weight just one pound. It has a 9.7 inch Retina panel and it definitely is a really winner over all the tablets we have seen to date. The iPad Air offers a 64-bit A7 processor coupled with the M7 motion coprocessor. The new A7 processor is twice as fast as the processor found in the iPad 4. The iPad Air comes in two colors; Space Gray and Silver and will be available on the 1st of November in 41 countries around the world. Apple also announced the new iPad mini 2 with Retina display. As well as packing a wonderfully-crisp Retina panel, the smaller of the two tables also includes quite a few features that we're more than familiar with including the A7 processor. This is a huge step up from the A5 which was seen in the original iPad mini and makes it a serioulsy worthy counterpart to the full sized iPad Air. The device now offers a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution panel, which makes photos crisper, apps clearer and iOS 7 a little bit more beautiful. The iPad mini 2 comes in Space Gray and Silver. The iPad mini 2 with Retina display comes in 16, 32 and 64GB storage configurations in either Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular and will be available in November.

According to a research note from Ming-chi Kuo of KGI Securities both of these devices have been hit with delays. The release date for the iPhone 5S was though to be July with announcement in June but now it appears that neither of these devices will be hitting the markets any time soon. Kuo touches on a number of reasons for Apple's struggles with the two devices in his report and among these is that there is difficulty integrating the heavily-rumored new fingerprint sensor into the iPhone 5S. The fingerprint sensor looks set to be among the numerous features that are being added to the upcoming device, but if Kuo's words are to be believed, the feature may be causing more than a bit of a design headache. He stated that Apple has to work out how to prevent interference from the black and white coating material under the glass. No other company has attempted anything like this before on mobile devices so Apple can't look at any existing designs for inspiration or possible workarounds. As well as the iPhone 5S, the next generation iPad mini is also proving to be a little more problematic than first thought and manufactureres seem to be having difficulty with the new retina disply panels. Kuo does however remain optimistic and he reckons that that these devices will make an appearance in the third quarter of this year, and even though no dates have been given, it looks like we might see a similar sequence of events as we did back in 2012.
