The new fifth generation iPad has been entirely revamped with a thinner and lighter overall design. It's also more compact, boasts some tidy new display tech and it's been given a new name: iPad Air. The new iPad Air is 20% thinner that the last generation iPad 4. The bezels are 43% thinner and it weight just one pound. It has a 9.7 inch Retina panel and it definitely is a really winner over all the tablets we have seen to date. The iPad Air offers a 64-bit A7 processor coupled with the M7 motion coprocessor. The new A7 processor is twice as fast as the processor found in the iPad 4. The iPad Air comes in two colors; Space Gray and Silver and will be available on the 1st of November in 41 countries around the world. Apple also announced the new iPad mini 2 with Retina display. As well as packing a wonderfully-crisp Retina panel, the smaller of the two tables also includes quite a few features that we're more than familiar with including the A7 processor. This is a huge step up from the A5 which was seen in the original iPad mini and makes it a serioulsy worthy counterpart to the full sized iPad Air. The device now offers a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution panel, which makes photos crisper, apps clearer and iOS 7 a little bit more beautiful. The iPad mini 2 comes in Space Gray and Silver. The iPad mini 2 with Retina display comes in 16, 32 and 64GB storage configurations in either Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular and will be available in November.

We also suspect that we will see one or two other products being shown off and in this post we want to give you the roundup on we think this event might bring. The most obvious device that we expect Apple to demonstrate and make available very soon is the iPad mini 2. We expect that this device will come with Retina display but there are some questions around what CPU power the device will have and whether or not Apple will bring Touch ID to this tablet. The next device is the iPad 5 and this is set to be based on a chip that closely resembles the A7 found in the iPhone 5s. The iPad 5 might also get Apple's new Touch ID. The new larger iPads are always seen as Apple's high-end tablets so bringing a fingerprint sensor to the iPad 5 makes perfect sense. The iPad 5 is also expected to feature a new, smaller bezel. On the software front, and hot on the heels of iOS 7 we expect to see OS X Mavericks demonstrated. Now this this version of OS X 10.9 has been seeded to developers, we wouldn't be at all surprised if Apple launched the new operating system tomorrow making it available instantly via the Mac App store. We are also hoping to have answers regarding the Mac Pro and how much it will cost. The MacBook Pro is another item and Intel's Haswell seems to be the new kid on the block and is currently powering the MacBook Air. Bringing the new chip to the MacBook Pro is just a matter of time and we might just see this revealed tomorrow too. It looks as if all of the iWork and iLife suite of apps for iOS are going to be updated with their iOS 7 makeovers for Tueday too. There really are lots of things that might happen tomorrow and as always we have to wait and see what really does transpire.

Apple has sent out invites for the October 22nd event where we believe we will see the introduction of the next generation range of iPads. The tagline on the invites says �We still have a lot to cover�, and this will probably lead to a lot more speculation over what this event will hold. The expected iPad event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco on October 22nd at 10.00am PT. Apple has used this venue on a number of occasions to introduce new hardware so it should feel like home for the attending media and company executives. If we are to go on history, we already know that device specific speculation goes into overdrive when an event has been officially announced. There has already been a great deal of rumors surrounding the potential introduction of the iPad mini2 that could come with Retina display and a faster processor. A lot of iPad mini owners have complained about the performance compromises on the device when iOS 7 is installed so an improvement under the hood would be a very welcome addition for those who prefer the 7.9 inch tablet. The inclusion of a fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5s and accompanying introduction of the Touch ID technology has also increased speculation about the future of the iPad. Apple's Touch ID detection allows users to unlock the device as well as authenticate App Store purchases by scanning a pre-registered fingerprint on the home button of the iPhone 5s. Rumor has it that the same technology will be adapted and used in the iPad 5. Whether or not the iPad mini will get the same biometric based love is another story. An October announcement means that the iPad range will be available for the holiday shopping season. Apart from the iPads, we're expecting Apple to announce new Haswell MacBook Pros, the availability date of the new Mac Pro, and of course the release of OS X Mavericks to the general public.

While this event is set to focus on Apple's upcoming tablets, it is entirely possible that the new Max Pro and OS X Mavericks could put in an appearance. There aren't that many details available at this moment, but AllThingsD seem confident that we will see both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 being presented on stage. This puts to bed the claims that the iPad mini 2 won't be ready on time. Paczkowski also said that the iPad mini 2 will pack a new Retina display too, which is another fact that has been a matter of debate over the past couple of weeks. Given the fact that AllThingsD have in the past been very accurate we are inclined to believe their sources. We are hoping that the new iPad mini 2 with a Retina display will be unveiled. Invites for this event should be arriving any day now if this news is correct so we'll know soon enough exactly what to expect. It is also expected that the new iPads will feature Apple's Touch ID sensor and if we are lucky enough we will also get to see a gold color option for the iPad mini 2 and the iPad 5. The latest report suggests that the iPad 5 will be 15% thinner and 25% lighter than the iPad 4. The release date for this new iPad could be as early as June so this increased attention might well be warranted. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who tends to have reliable information has said that he believes the next Apple tablet will be dramatically thinner and lighter than the rather bloated fourth generation iPad. He estimates that the iPad 5 will be 15% thinner and 25% lighter than the current iPad. This falls in line with suggestions of a much more iPad mini-esque form factor. Kuo goes on to say that the next full-sized iPad will feature thinner bezels along the longer edges like the iPad mini which will in turn allow the device to be slightly narrower. He also states that the next iPad will measure in at around 7.5 � 8.0mm in depth and weight just 500g. This is a very big drop in bulk. Kuo also states that the device will pack in an A7X processor but that the cameras will remain unchanged. The 5 megapixel iSight of the iPad 4 is not great but then again, very few people use their iPads to take pictures so it makes sense for Apple to concentrate on the more important issues. The iPad mini is a beautiful device so it makes sense for Apple to revert to this appearance so that both of these products are in line with each other and it also promotes a more uniform look across the board. The next generation iPad looks to be the biggest leap since the third generation model bought us retina display. The iPad mini also looks set to have retina display added too. If all these changes do come about, it will make Apple's continued dominance in the tablet market difficult for rival vendors to falter.

The fourth generation iPad was almost identical to the iPad 2 except that it was heavier and thicker. It is strongly suspected that Apple is going to change the upcoming iPad 5 to make it more beautiful adding a touch of anodized aluminum. We still don't know if this really will be the case but a leaked image of the iPad 5 bezel seem to indicate that from the front the next generation iPad could be borrowing a few design points from the iPad mini. Apple's decision to make the bezel thinner along the two vertical axes of the iPad mini is seen as being much more efficient from a design perspective and it also makes it easier for users to hold. It also looks much better. This leaked image could be just another person trying to ignite the rumor mill but with Apple having made no effort to alter the iPad 4's design, it may just be that Apple is planning to make some amendments this time round. It's not very often that Apple releases products that are heavier or thicker than their predecessors, so a new iPad mini like design for the new iPad 5 could be on the cards. This will give us a lighter and better looking design too. The iPad 4 is pretty bloated considering how many revisions it has seen and it launched just seven months after the iPad 3. Leaks suggest that there could be a lot more time and effort being put into the next generation model. The leaked image that we received cannot be verified so it is hard to tell whether it is fake or not and as with all rumors and leaked images we do have to wait on offical confirmation from Apple before we know exactly what we are getting. With that said, we fully expect to see Apple modernize the full size iPad to create a uniform look with the iPad mini. This speculated release date is notable because it means that the next iPad will be released just five months after the current model was announced. This also means that Apple will have releaesed the third, fourth and fifth generation models in a 12 month period. The fifth generation iPad information comes courtesy of Macotakara which is a Japanese blog which has been very active in the iPad prediction market over the past twelve months. They have also claimed that the fifth generation iPad will bring the device more in line with the aesthetics of the iPad mini by making it lighter and thinner as well as slightly changing the device's shell. This rumor also seems to fall in line with speculations that Apple could be changing tactics in favor of a six monthly release cycle for the iPad rather than releasing new hardware every twelve months. It is unclear as to how consumers will feel about this though because it will mean that a new version of their device will be released every six months and it could lead to a dramatic fall in sales as consumers realize that their product will be outdated after just a couple of months of use. In relation to the overall specifications fo the upcoming fifth generation iPad, there is no information available. It is likely that we will see an upgrade and major improvements to the iPad mini in the coming year with the introduction of a retina display and an improved processor ripped straight from the fourth generation iPad, but as yet we really don't know.
