Apple held their media event with the announement of the new iPad and the new iPad mini. The new fifth generation iPad has been entirely revamped with a thinner and lighter overall design. It's also more compact, boasts some tidy new display tech and it's been given a new name: iPad Air.

The new iPad Air is 20% thinner that the last generation iPad 4. The bezels are 43% thinner and it weight just one pound. It has a 9.7 inch Retina panel and it definitely is a really winner over all the tablets we have seen to date. The iPad Air offers a 64-bit A7 processor coupled with the M7 motion coprocessor. The new A7 processor is twice as fast as the processor found in the iPad 4. The iPad Air comes in two colors; Space Gray and Silver and will be available on the 1st of November in 41 countries around the world.

Apple also announced the new iPad mini 2 with Retina display. As well as packing a wonderfully-crisp Retina panel, the smaller of the two tables also includes quite a few features that we're more than familiar with including the A7 processor. This is a huge step up from the A5 which was seen in the original iPad mini and makes it a serioulsy worthy counterpart to the full sized iPad Air. The device now offers a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution panel, which makes photos crisper, apps clearer and iOS 7 a little bit more beautiful. The iPad mini 2 comes in Space Gray and Silver. The iPad mini 2 with Retina display comes in 16, 32 and 64GB storage configurations in either Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular and will be available in November.
