As many iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners know, these A5 processer devices have so far not been able to perform firmware downgrades. When Apple releases a new version of iOS they stop signing the older firmware and this means that any official restores result in the user installing the latest official iOS version onto their device. For normal users this isn�t a problem but if you are an iDevice owner who wants to jailbreak their device this is a nightmare because if they accidently upgrade their firmware they have to wait until the Dev-Teams come up with a working jailbreak for the new iOS version. In the majority of cases Cydia will automatically capture any available blobs and update the users� Cydia app with the blobs that have been saved. Developer and hacker iH8sn0w now claims to have found a loophole in Apple�s APTicket system that has allowed him to successfully downgrade his iPad 2 from iOS 5.1 to 5.0.1. He also believes that this loophole will allow firmware downgrades on Apple�s new iPad running on the new A5X processors. iH8sn0w shared the news on his twitter account and it basically means that owners of the iPad 2, the new iPad and the iPhone 4S can now downgrade their devices to any firmware they choose.

This update comes ahead of the next update which is expected to be iOS 5.1. The battery drainage issue has gained a lot of attention on Apple�s discussion forums and it has also been revealed here that a number of users are having problems with SIM card errors too. Here is what Apples new support document has to say: In certain situations, iPhone 4S may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors: - "Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" alert appears intermittently. - Status bar displays "No Service" or "Searching" in a location with good network coverage. The document then goes on to describe the recommended solution to these issues and this includes backing up and then restoring the device. This involves iTunes pulling down the new Build 9A406 of iOS 5.0.1 and installing it on your device. Once you restore your iPhone 4S you can then restore your content and settings from the backup. Some users have reported that this does fix the SIM card errors whilst others have stated that there has been no improvement. It�s not sure what the problem is and if there are other issues that need to be addressed but for the moment we have to wait to see what more users have to say before specific conclusions can be made.

The example of the hacker we mentioned allows him to set and check the status of a WiFi thermostat and there is no reason why this couldn�t link into the APIs of other devices. Imagine you could tell your TiVo to record TV shows using Siri. With this hack the possibilities are almost endless. If you are using iOS 5 and you want to perform a hack without having to jailbreak your device, you can now enable the hidden native panorama option for your iOS 5 camera. This hack is very simple and below are the steps you need to perform. This hack will work on any gyroscope capable device including the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Step 1: The first thing you have to do is backup your device�s data using iTunes. This is not the usual precautionary measure that you hear of; you actually need to modify this backup in order to perform the hack. Step 2: Next download the iBackupBot from www.icopybot.com which is compatible with both Windows and Mac. Once the download is complete just install and launch it. Step 3: Locate you com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist file. Double click the file which will take you to the editing page. Step 4: Directly below <key>DiskSpaceWasLow</key> <false/>, add <key>EnableFirebreak</key> <true/> then hit the disk icon to save. Step 5: Restore your backup via iTunes and the process is now complete. Launch the camera app and then navigate to the options and click on panorama to start taking pictures in panorama mode. We have tested this and yes it does work really well. This news comes directly from Apple in a press release statement that was released. It stated that a whopping 4 million units of the iPhone 4S were sold in the first weekend. According to Apple this is a record breaking number and no other phone has sold this much in such a short time. This is more than double what the iPhone 4 sold last year. On their website looking at the iPhone 4 bumper it was clearly shown in the drop down that this bumper will fit a black or white iPhone 4S 16GB, 32GB and 64GB model. With this information leaked it does raise the question as to whether the iPhone 4S might be the only phone that will actually be shipped over the next few weeks. A 64GB iPhone 4S is going to be really expensive which might lead to the current iPhone 4 being the affordable model people have been talking about. This information tells us that the iPhone 4S will be sticking to the same physical appearance as the iPhone 4 and will be the same size and have the same display, width and length. What is also important to note is the fact that there was no mention of an 8GB model which means there won�t be a dirt cheap model. There is no mention on their website of the iPhone 5 which can mean two things, either the iPhone 4S will have a dual core processor inside and will be what everyone was assuming was the iPhone 5 or that the iPhone 5 will actually have a bigger display as the rumours have suggested and this bumper won�t fit it. He has stated that a lower end model known as the iPhone 4S and a higher end model known as the iPhone 5 will be made available so that Apple can target customers with lower budgets. Whitmore also went on to state that Apple may actually be trying to capitalize on struggling smartphone platfors such as Blackberry, Nokia and RIMM in a bid to win over a different range of customers. The iPhone 5 is set to be the direct successor to the iPhone 4 with the iPhone 4S meeting the needs of the lower end customers. It is thought that the iPhone 4S will be a prepaid cell phone priced at $350 with plans that are similar to the ones found on the iPad today. This will allow users to pay for the data or calls that they require when they need them. We really have no way of verifying what Whitmore is reporting and this is just more speculation to add to the speculation that we have already seen about Apple�s next generation iPhone. Over the last few months we have seen numerous reports about the new iPhone so I guess we really will have to wait and see whether Apple do release two new iPhone models in September.
