The BBM app wasn't the most popular in the first place and this is because those who didn't already have a BBM account had to wait in line while BlackBerry got their stuff sorted. Installing this app left a lot of people with nothing to do except for enter their email address and then wait. Things got worse once Apple updated iOS to 7.0.3 which partially broke BBM in the process. It is something that can be worked around but it has been a pain for a lot of people.

BlackBerry has now updated their BBM app and it apparently fixes the iOS 7.0.3 problem. Making the app actually work isn't the only thing that is part of the BBM update. They have also added contact categories, list sorting and filtering in BBM groups, performance improvements and of course they have fixed bugs.

While these updates are all great, we can't help but think that BBM is off to a bad start on iOS . This isn't being reflected in the App Store charts though, where BBM is currently sitting pretty in the number 1 spot after just a couple of days of being made available for download. The number of people actually able to use it though will no doubt be rather smaller than those that have downloaded it.

If you want to get you hands on the BBM app you can head over to the App store now and get it. Hopefully BlackBerry will keep working to improve its functionality and those who don't have accounts don't have to wait too long become it becomes a fully functioning app that they can actually use.

This connectivity loss lasted for days and this meant days where BlackBerry users found their smartphones all but useless.

RIM has finally managed to stabilize its infrastructure and with it has come the fallout and the counting of the cost of this catastrophe. This cost could be considerable according to trade in company Gazelle who claim to have received a record number of BlackBerry handsets.

RIM did try to sweeten the blow to its customers by offering them $100 worth of free premium apps. The problem really couldnt have come at a worse time as it just so happened that the Apple iPhone 4S launch was in full swing. The media was all over this launch and BlackBerry owners instantly tuned into the potential of the iPhone as RIMs network fell apart. In the space of a few days RIM was seeing a massive loss. Gazelle stated that they have no doubts that this is the reason for the influx of BlackBerry trade ins. This is the highest volume of BlackBerry trade ins they have ever seen.

Whether or not RIM can recover from such a massive outage remains to be seen but with customers leaving the platform in droves how long will it take before all they have left is their select business customers.
