The people over at PhoneBuff, have compiled a fantastic video of 50 voice commands that you can use to get more out of Siri. You probably won't have tried many of them and after watching this video, you might just change your mind about what Siri can do. This extensive look at the commands that Siri can process shows that even though we might have put Siri to the back of our minds, Apple hasn't and Siri has come a long way in just two short years. Then of course, we got our hands on it and it just wasn't what we had hoped for at all. Siri fell short of what we thought and hoped it would do and for many it is just an additional feature on their iPhone. When Google brought Google Now and Google Voice Search to iOS, we all got excited again and anyone who has used Google's Voice Search will tell you that it is really accurate at taking your words and turning them into text. It performs a lot better than Siri does anyway. But there is a problem, and that is that it can't handle things like setting reminders. You need to use Siri for this and that brings you back to square one. You can either put up with Siri or have no reminders, or you can use two apps. For those who would prefer a solution, there is a new jailbreak tweak available called Googiri. This tweak is free on Cydia and it takes voice commands and routes them through Google's Voice Search system and then decides what to do with the output based on the way the question or command was posed. An example of this would be if you said �Google for bread recipes�, the search would be done via Google. If you said something like �Siri, what will the weather be like tomorrow�, the request will go through Siri, but only after Google Voice search has done the voice to text heavy lifting. The result is a much more accurate transcription than Siri ever manages to give and you still get the best of both Siri and Google Voice search without having to fight with two different apps. If you like the idea of Siri but find that it just doesn't work well enough, this little tweak could be just the thing. You will need to be running a jailbreak on your iPhone to use it so if you don't then we're afraid you are stuck with what you have. Voice Answer is available at the App Store and it costs just $3.99 which may see quite high but the Wolfram Alpha feature along with the ability to type questions in manually makes Voice Answer a worthwhile purchase as a Siri like alternative.

The notification centre was one of these but the real feature that developers were chomping to get their teeth into was Siri and this came with iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S. Siri is exclusive to the iPhone 4S hardware and due to the initial lack of a jailbreak for A5 powered devices running on iOS 5 it was difficult for developers to create and test any Siri based tweaks. The release of Absinthe has change all this. Absinthe provides an untethered jailbreak for all A5 devices which in turn has opened the gates for Siri enhancements. One of the latest tweaks to use the functionality of Siri is called TweetLine. This is an AssistantExtensions plugin which provides Twitter integration through the registered Twitter account in the setting application. By activating Siri through the normal method and giving the spoken command �timeline�, the TweetLine tweak forces Siri to display the latest five tweets from your Twitter timeline. TweetLine has been built on the AssistantExtensions tweak which allows developers to quickly and efficiently develop enhancements for Siri. TweetLine displays your last five tweets in plain text but usernames and any links are redundant. This tweak could prove useful if you want to quickly check your timeline but other than that there isn't much that it can do. TweetLine is available free of charge through the ModMyi repository and requires a Siri enabled device with a registered Twitter account. You also need to have a jailbroken iPhone 4S.

There is no denying that Siri is a great addition to the iPhone with its intelligent voice assistant being able to analyze voice commands and perform specific tasks based on this audible user instruction. A lot of people however still aren't convinced and many people say it is the lack of scope that is leaving them on the bench where Siri is concerned. When the iPhone 4s and Siri were launched the software was billed and advertised as a personal assistant that would let you send messages, schedule meetings, make phones calls and a lot of other impressive things. One of the major benefits was the ability to talk to Siri like a real person forming full sentences to instruct the software of what you wanted it to do. Siri would then analyze the sentence, understand it and process it. For a lot of things Siri works great but unfortunately the technology has not been integrated deeply enough into the iOS and there are some things that we would love Siri to be able to do that it just can't. The jailbreak community have as always stepped forward and we are starting to see some great Siri-based tweaks popping up in Cydia. Some of these add additional power to Siri by hooking into certain settings and allowing users to launch specific applications using voice commands. Apple made a big deal about the fact that they were partnering with Twitter to deeply integrate this social service into iOS. After the initial excitement died down all users really got was native account registering through settings and a framework for developers which negates the need to deal with Twitter's unfriendly APIs. IOS developer Tyler Nettleton posted on his Twitter account to see if any of his followers would be interested in a tweak that would allow Siri to write and post tweets. It seems Nettleton's tweak allows users to activate Siri and simply say �tweet...� followed by a message which is immediately posted to twitter. This tweak has not been completed as yet but it sounds great and very promising indeed and we can't wait till it is released to the public. Of course you will need to have a jailbroken iPhone 4S to use it but that shouldn't be a problem as there are a number of jailbreak options available.

The decision to limit its availability to the new iPhone 4S is a shame but what we have to report today could allow you to enjoy some of the benefits of Siri on your iPhone 4 without having to upgrade to the iPhone 4S. Since the release of the iPhone 4S every hacker available has been trying to get Siri to run on all iDevices. They have also proven that it is possible but that because Siri needs to talk to Apple�s servers and the authentication that it requires it has been difficult for it to make its way into the public domain. Thanks to a new jailbreak tweak by developer Eric Day you can now get half of the Siri experience. The new app which is called Siri0us is available to download from Cydia and won�t cost you anything if you don�t mind having a few adds thrown into the process. So what does this new app give users? Well users won�t get the actual Siri integration but they will get the Nuance powered dictation feature. This tweak really does work and if you have been waiting to talk to your iPhone but just don�t have the money to upgrade to the iPhone 4S then this could be a great app to get. One word of warning � some users have reported issues when trying to install this tweak, and if you�re device keeps on respringing there is a fix at hand. The developer has noted a bug that some may run into when trying to install. If your iDevice keeps respringing, do not restore! Use a SSH tool to remove the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AssistantServices.framework file. Other than that this seems to work really well but remember you will need to have a jailbroken device in order to use it.

All this is thanks to a Siri server that is being run on a computer with the iPhone 4S looking to it in order to fulfill requests asked of it. This is all done by cracking Siri�s security protocols which means that those who are familiar with coding can actually interfere with how Siri works and they can inject different code and data at will. This server allows developers to create custom Siri handlers for different actions. The example of the hacker we mentioned allows him to set and check the status of a WiFi thermostat and there is no reason why this couldn�t link into the APIs of other devices. Imagine you could tell your TiVo to record TV shows using Siri. With this hack the possibilities are almost endless. The great thing about this hack is that you don�t have to have a jailbroken device. This hack really does show off the potential power of Siri.
