The event kicked off with Apple CEO Tim Cook giving shareholders an update on how much the company has achieved in the last month. Then Phil Schiller and Tim Cook took it in turns to officially reveal the new Apple fruits. The first announcement was a new version of iBooks. There were no real significant changes. iBooks now features continuous scrolling in between pages for easier reading, better iCloud support and social sharing features. This is not really the kind of update we were expecting but at least it was something. The 13 inch MacBook Pro with Retina display was next and it offers those looking for a thinner, lighter notebook the chance to purchase a high end product in a smaller size. This new model comes with a price tag of $1699 which is $500 cheaper than the 15 inch edition. The Mac mini was next and this features intel�s newest Ivy Bridge processor along with four USB 3.0 ports. There is also a server edition offering up to 2TB of HDD space. The re-designed iMac was also unveiled and this is now just 5mm thick at its thinnest points around the edges. The optical drive is going but we are sure this won�t be an issue with people. Whilst the Mac alternatives were great, it wasn�t the main reason everyone had tuned into this event. This event was always all about the iPad mini and when Schiller finally unveiled it to the world all doubts about this new device were put to rest. The iPad mini packs in the A5 processor, 729p 7.9 inch display and a bezel reflecting that of the iPod touch. It fits nicely into the hand too. The rumor of 12 different models turned out to be a little off but there is still plenty of variety for everyone. The 16GB iPad mini will retail at $329 so we don�t think Apple are going to be dealing with massive demand just yet. The last thing that was announced at this event is something that is a little controversial. Apple decided to give the iPad 3 a few changes. The new �twice as fast� A6X processor has been added along with better Wi-Fi, improved 4G LTE in European and Asian nations and the new lightning connector. A lot of talk has followed this update and many people seem to think that they have been ripped off. It has only been eight months since the launch of the third generation iPad and to have a fourth generation iPad announced so soon is ridiculous. What does everyone else think of this?

The rumors have been coming in very fast indeed and one of the latest rumors is one that actually reveals a great deal of information about what the iPad 3 might just hold. If these rumors are true then tech blog MIC Gadget really have gotten their hands on the front glass, rear shell and case of the iPad 3 and some great pieces of information to go with it. The first thing that they reported is that the front panel of the iPad 3 does in fact have a home button. When Apple initially sent out their invitation to the press event there was huge speculation and many believed that the iPad 3 didn't have a home button due to the way it was photographed. It also seems that the iPad 3 is slightly thicker than the iPad 2 and the edges are more tapered. This will make the device feel thinner when being held. The iPad 3 also fits the current generation smart covers too. MIC Gadget has plenty of great photos and a video on their blog where they compare the alleged iPad 3 hardware with that of the iPad 2. Here is a brief overview of what they are saying. The iPad 3 will be available in its current assortment of 16GB, 32GB and 64Gb. The price points for each of these devices is also said to be remaining the same. There is speculation that LTE will not be built into the iPad 3 and they report that this is due to the fact that there is a limited market for the LTE and that the price of this chip would increase the cost of the device. They do state however that LTE could be added into the next generation model after the iPad 3. Again these are just rumors and with all rumors they must be taken with a pinch of salt. This media event will let everyone know what the new iPad 3 is gong to hold and many think that Apple could be planning more. Over the past couple of days there has been disagreement over the processing power that the new iPad 3 will have. Some say it will be the quad-core idea whilst other believe that Apple will stick with the current A5 offering as a base but improve on the existing chip by possibly adding an improved graphics engine. Evidence has also been found within the iOS 5.1 beta releases that points to Apple working on the S5L8950X and S5L8945X model numbers which would seem to point to two individual processors with the current A5 model being the S5L8940x number. The fact that two separate processors are being worked on by Apple will be enough to produce plenty of rumors and possibilities but if this is what is happening then logic reasoning would point to the fact that the A6 chip would be used in the new iPad 3 while the A5X processor could be used in the revamped Apple TV set top box. As with all rumors this is just speculation and it could be that Apple is deciding which processor to use. Only time will tell and we are all waiting anxiously for the March media event to see which rumors are in fact true.

More and more people are anxious to find out about the proposed design and technical specifications of the new tablet. We are all well aware of the fact that Apple product announcements are big news but with the iPad growing in popularity the public attention for this launch is going to be at an all time high. This news came from the folks over at 9to5Mac in the form of a report in which they cite a post over on ilab.cc which is full of photos of some of the iPad 3's leaked components. The back panel suggests that the iPad 3 will be about 10mm thick which is 1mm thicker than the iPad 2 and this is supposedly due to the newer more powerful components such as a larger camera sensor, bigger battery and thicker dual LEB backlit LCD panel. Ilab.cc compared one of the rumored sharp high resolution LDC panels and found that it fits absolutely perfectly with the leaked iPad 3 back plate. That's not all, the iPad 3's camera hole is different to the iPad 2 design and this suggests that the iPad 3 may just come with a more respectable rear camera too. The results of this iPad 3 component leak study match perfectly with the rumored hardware specifications which are a longer lasting battery, a 2048x1536 9.7� retina display and better camera sensors to match the higher resolution. It isn't clear as yet if there will be a quad core A6 or just a faster more efficient dual core A5. According to latest reports the iPad 3 is set to be announced in the first week of March at Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco.

Two new code names, J1AP and J2AP have been discovered in the latest beta release which appear to link with recent reports that suggest the iPad 3 is being developed under the J1 and J2 names. It is presumed that one of these is the Wi-Fi only version and the other will also have a 3G radio. The first point in the report about a smaller iPad has to be discussed. Here is what Steve Jobs said in October 2010: �7-inch tablets are tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with the iPad,� said Jobs, adding that competing manufacturers were struggling to meet the price point of the iPad, which starts at $500. �These are among the reasons that the current crop of 7-inch tablets are going to be DOA � dead on arrival,� Jobs said. What this leads to is a question as to whether Tim Cook will go against Steve Jobs. This is highly unlikely as Steve Jobs� beliefs in design are the same as his entire company�s beliefs in design. The Apple designers did their homework on tablet display sizes and decided on a 9.7� display back in 2010 and it is highly unlikely that they will change this just to meet market demand. The claim that two iPads will be released in 2012 is also highly unlikely. The iPad sells really well based on the experience it offers not on the specifications it has under the hood. We really don�t believe that Apple will introduce an iPad with a smaller display but as with all rumors and stories that appear there is no evidence until an official statement is released from Apple. The new comes from CNET where a cite analyst Richard Shim�s claims that iPad 3 panels are going into production. Mass manufacturing the 9.7� 2048x1536 displays is not an easy or a quick task and Shim�s claims that there will be three separate display suppliers so as to ensure that Apple has enough devices when it comes to the launch. If we take a look at the last two iPad announcements we can expect to hear something in March with a release happening in April. From CNET: It�s happening�QXGA, 2048�1536. Panel production has started [for the next-generation iPad]. There�s three suppliers,� Richard Shim, an analyst at DisplaySearch, said in an interview today. Shim confirmed other reports that cite three companies, Samsung, Sharp, and LGD. The jump from 1024 by 768 pixels to 2048 x 1536 pixels would, in the words of the late Steve Jobs himself, be a �quantum leap� for tablet computing. I believe those of you who upgraded to an iPhone 4 from a 3GS or 3G will remember the first time they laid eyes on the Retina Display. Games looked better, text looked sharper and videos looked crisper. The same will happen with the iPad 3�s rumored Retina Display and it�s going to leave us all floored. It won�t be 316ppi like the iPhone 4S, but 264ppi for 9.7� display will still be pretty impressive. The report that was written by Shim is also backed up by a piece of code found by 9to5Mac in iOS 5 which hints towards the iPad 3 having a retina display. The code string mentions an iOS device codenamed J2 which is claimed by DigiTimes to be one of the two iPad 3 prototypes being tested by Apple in iOS 5. We all know that Apple is a very secretive company and as such all the reports and all the rumors won�t be clarified until the new iPad is officially announced.

This news comes from Jeffrey Fidacaro who is an analyst over at Susquehanna Financial Group. According to his report, manufacturers have been ordered to start manufacturing one million iPads in the fourth quarter of this year. This news comes from a number of analysts who are trying to predict what the iPhone 4S means for the future of Apple as a company and where they stand fiscally for the company�s last two quarters including this one. Fidacaro in his report references his colleague�s report on the iPad where other analysts are questioning the current increase in iPad production: We believe AAPL pulled production forward to ensure sufficient availability of iPad during the holidays, and such a move is consistent with a production decline in advance of the new model launch (we believe iPad 3 starts production in 4Q, as noted below). Thus, we believe that recent competitor reports, which only noted the 4Q production volumes two weeks ago, were misinformed. iPad 3 appears on the forecast for 4Q production start. Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL�s production forecast for a late-4Q production start. We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production. This is great news if it is correct and hopefully the iPad 3 will pave the way for the new iPhone 5. BGR is also speculating that there will be an announcement for a new iPad mini which will be less expensive and will compete with the new Kindle Fire. We do hope that Apple will continue to provide some great devices and if their iPhone 4S sales are anything to go by there really is more to come.

Yes is seems like the new iPhone 5 and the next generation iPad are being prepared. This report states that both of these devices should be seen in September or October of this year and the next iPad could also sport a higher resolution screen. Foxconn are going to be in charge of assembling the device and parts will be obtained from several different makers including Largan Precision, Simplo Technologies, Dynapack International Technology, TPK Holding and Wintek, Catcher. According to rumors Apple are hoping to ramp up the manufacturing of the next generation iPhone and with this list of parts makers it looks as if the rumor is true. What we are not sure of yet is a release of a new iPad this year. Releasing a new iPad 3 would fall out of the iPad�s yearly release cycle. It might be more likely that we will see a new iPod Touch in September or October instead which is actually due for an upgrade this year. The new iPad 3 will probably not be seen until early next year which would actually be consistent with previous released. This report has stated that Apple is planning that the next generation iPad will have a higher resolution screen at 250dpi which will allow for better text and images. I guess we really will have to wait until September or October to see if these rumors are true and exactly what Apple will be releasing.
