The official announcement came last week and we now can't wait to see what will be uncovered from the 2nd of June. Adding to what we already know about iOS 8 and OS X 10.10, more information is emerging with regards to what Apple might have in store for this summer and beyond. According to a report over a 9to5Mac, the forthcoming version of iOS which we assume will be iOS 8, is currently being referred to under the codename Okemo. From what we've already learned so far about Okemo, we know that the Healthbook app will be one of the central pieces and while this feature may also integrate with the unconfirmed �iWatch� device, we will see Apple finally latch onto the lucrative health and wellbeing market. 9to5Mac's report also suggests that Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) support will be added to the next iPhone and as such, the updated software will be duly configured to facilitate the new technology. VoLTE would certainly improve call quality and efficiency thanks to the robust and technologically advanced nature of the LTE networks, although given the T-Mobile is the only carrier with a fully operational VoLTE system in place, it will be interesting to see how Apple plays this. Another thing we have heard is that iOS 8 will be giving iTunes Radio a proper identity with its own standalone app. This move should help to promote and support a streaming service that hasn't really gotten off its feet since it rolled out with iOS 7. Maps, which has suffered since it's disastrous launch with iOS 6, is also in line for improvement, bringing a standard of functionality comparable to the systems offered by the likes of Google and Nokia. OS X, meanwhile will focus on design changes and given the flatter, cleaner look of iOS nowadays, we are expecting that the desktop software will follow in very much the same fashion. We will learn more from June 2nd when Apple will take to the stage at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and we can't wait to see what they have in store.

Apple's devices offer great usability, can serve for both entertainment and productivity, are durable and generally good value for money. The iPad Air was unveiled last month and it looks great. It also seems like there is one more reason to love this device. It carries an awesome battery with almost unparalleled battery life. A recent experiment carried out by AnandTech showed just that. The test was run on the new LTE version of the iPad Air where they put it in Personal Hotspot mode to broadcast the device's data connection to another connected device. With an active single connection downloading data from the internet at a constant speed, the iPad Air lasted 24.08 hours before giving up. This is probably better than any other tablet on the market right now. This test was conducted by turning off the display of the iPad and connecting it to a MacBookPro, which was downloading data at a steady 100KB/s. The hotspot was limited to only one device to measure actual capacity, which turned out to be amazing. If anything, Apple has done a fantastic job this time round. AnandTech also explains the reasoning behind such results. They had conducted a similar test for the LTE iPad 3 as well, but this time, Apple has opted for a different architecture and SoC for both the processor and the modem that is carried within. The low power consumption allows the iPad Air's smaller battery to function better than the previous generation devices, despite carrying a smaller charge. This kind of improvement shows that Apple is committed to improving the experience of its users with every new device. Over the past couple of months we have heard speculation about pretty much everything to do with the next generation iPhone including but not limited to the physical size and appearance, the inclusion of a new smaller dock connector as well as the potential inclusion of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. New reports are suggesting that Apple�s next iPhone will feature worldwide LTE functionality, potentially allowing customers to receive lighting fast cellular data speeds no matter where they are in the world. Rather than being limited to a home provider, the inclusion would mean that the device could receive LTE coverage in places like Asia, Europe and the Americas based on the availability of LTE services. When it comes to LTE it looks like a number of carriers are likely not to offer the LTE services to customers meaning the device would drop back onto normal 3G data in these locations. In addition to that, Apple also have the threat of legal action from Samsung Electronics hanging over their heads due to the company holding over 800 LTE based patents. If Apple does decide to roll-out the new iPhone with LTE functionality we could see Samsung vs. Apple round two on the cards. As always with reports and rumors we do have to wait to hear the official story and thankfully that is just two days away now.

An analyst has seemingly told investors that he believes that Apple will not release a new iPhone during the summer because of chip shortages. There have been a lot of rumors lately that have suggested that Apple was working on getting the next iPhone out to customers before October but now it seems that this just isn�t the case. Gene Munster who is an analyst at Piper Jaffray believes that even if Apple had wanted to bring out the next iPhone sooner than October it wouldn�t be possible because of shortages by LTE chip maker Qualcomm. LTE is now part of the new iPad arsenal and Munster believes that the iPhone is also going to pick up on the 4G speed. With Qualcomm�s supply issues it means that a new iPhone release date would be more like October. It is also believed that Apple will include LTE in the new iPhone as an important feature in the product update. LTE capability in the iPad has been rumoured since the iPad 2 launch and many had hoped that the 4G technology would be added to the iPhone before the iPhone 4S was announced. With this technology now present in the new iPad device, it is almost a certain that Apple will put the LTE chip into the next iPhone too. For now this is just another of the many new iPhone rumors that are doing the rounds and as with every single one of them we really do have to wait and see what transpires.
