We have been bringing you updates as we have received them but we thought it was high time to let you know exactly what is going on with the iOS 7.1 jailbreak scene. If you are using the Evasi0n 7 untethered jailbreak then you already know not to update your firmware until if you want to keep it and that still remains true. Evasi0n 7 was patched with iOS 7.1 so it is useless if you have updated. What we do know to date is the Winocm posted a YouTube video demonstrating iOS 7.1 untethered boot a good while back and we all became very hopeful that an untethered iOS 7.1 jailbreak was on its way but that didn't happen. The next piece of information that came through was via Twitter where iH8sn0w claimed that his iPhone 4s was currently jailbroken on iOS 7.1 but nothing came of this either. Apple then released iOS 7.1.1 so only devices that were using 7.0.6 or below could avail of a jailbreak. The most exciting piece of news that we have is the i0n1c, Winocm and Yeongjin have all managed to jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 independently. I0n1c's jailbreak is called Cyberelevat0r and it looks promising but as yet we still have no ETA from any of them leaving everyone still hanging. With iOS 8 just around the corner we do have to wonder if these guys will keep everything to themselves and use the exploits that they have found to create a jailbreak for iOS 8 instead. This has meant that jailbreakers have had to stick with iOS 7.0.x or upgrade and give up their jailbreak and access to Cydia. The pre iOS 7.1 efforts by the Evad3rs team must be commended and they haven't given up yet. Seasoned hacker Winocm has just released a video of iOS 7.1 booting untethered. What we do know about Winocm is that he tends to look at older devices and pieces of firmware and it looks like he has used an iPhone 4 powered by the Apple A4 processor in his video. The older models are easier to hack and of course less relevant than the more recent devices. Nevertheless, this is great progress and it really does give us hope for an eventual jailbreak for iOS 7.1. If nothing else, this video show that work is being done to try and find exploits. It is worth remembering, that the jailbreak community are becoming less and less vocal about their findings so as not to give too much away in their ongoing battle with Apple. So while this video is a promising insight, it doesn't necessarily mean that an iOS 7.1 jailbreak will be released to the public. This video could however mean that a jailbreak for iOS 7.1 could be made available for those using A4 devices. Now it looks like the fifth beta shows even more signs that Apple is taking steps to foil the efforts of jailbreakers. The first iOS 7.1 beta, along with the following two, passed without incident, but it was always somewhat inevitable that the patching process would eventually begin. It happened and hacker iH8sn0w confirmed on Twitter that iOS 7.1 beta 4 was found to be partially patched. He has once again confirmed on Twitter that iOS 7.1 beta 5 takes things even further, also patching the AFC sandbox escape and chown vulnerability. While iH8sn0w is keeping everyone in the loop, the Evad3rs team are keeping quite, but with a good reason. By sounding off about exploits they may or may not have, or by simply speculating in any way, the chances of any future jailbreak being achieved cold be severely hindered. This is why, as MuscleNerd pointed out, the jailbreak scene rarely passes comment on beta releases. Now we know that iOS 7.1 certainly won't be jailbreakable using Evasi0n as it is, we can still hold out for a fair amount of hope that, in being reserved, the Evad3rs team perhaps has an exploit or two up their sleeves ready to attack iOS 7.1 GM once it has been readied for release. The fifth beta arrived today so it shouldn't be too long before we get an end user release. We will have all the details here as well as the jailbreak status of iOS 7.1 as soon as the information becomes available.

Team Evad3rs came to the rescue again with their Evasi0n7 jailbreak for iOS 7 but now that all looks to be going sour as iOS 7.1 beta 4 is released and it looks like it partially patches the Evasi0n7 jailbreak. The third beta of iOS 7.1 didn't touch this jailbreak but it looks like Apple has begun patching the exploits with their fourth beta. We did think that Apple might have been planning on waiting until the final beta befrore shattering our iOS 7.1 jailbreaking prospects, but the kernel exploit used by Evasi0n7, which allows the jailbreak to take place, has been patched according to a tweet by developer iH8sn0w. He followed this with a later tweet advising everyone that they shouldn't expect an Evasi0n7 update for iOS 7.1 beta 4+. He had initially pointed out that the userland exploits were not plugged with 7.1 beta 4, but with kernal exploits having been patched, it looks inevitable that no more jailbreaks will be released for betas. In fact, the only reason the third beta build was supported by Evasi0n was because Apple had basically left all the jailbreak gaps untouched. It now looks like the jailbreak scene and particularly the Evad3rs team, will be regrouping and preparing themselves for the next big release of iOS before they consider making any major updates to the Evasi0n tool. Whether this will be for iOS 7.1 GM or not remains to be seen. MuscleNerd also stated that comments on beta exploits being plugged by Apple is something of a rarity, and it only helps Apple. If you want to download the fourth beta of iOS 7.1, you will need to have a Developers account which will give you access to several other pre-release software for both iOS and Mac as well as associated Apple products.
