The app we are talking about is TorrentTV, a cross-platform streaming app that allows users to stream torrents directly to their Apple TV. Apple TV currently only allows users to view content that is provided or directly curated by Apple and this is fine, but a lot of people like to do a lot more. In a bid to provide more, the developers behind TorrentTV have come up with a clever way of interacting with Apple's AirPlay protocol to allow torrents to be streamed directly to the attached TV set. The newly created software available for Windows, OS X, and Linux, uses the same underlying streaming code that was found in the Popcorn Time app that hit headlines a couple of months back. The TorrentTV app also uses an extremely simple interface that allows media to simply be dragged and dropped on the UI for the streaming process to begin. We can't say that we approve of what the developers behind this app are trying to achieve, but the fact that it doesn't acutally index or save any files should give it an extremely small amount of leeway when the legal teams of the big companies come looking for them. By downloading sequential parts of the provided file in the background, the service is able to stream the embedded media immediately to Apple TV, and even the Roku. Even though we are letting you know about this app, we do get the feeling that it won't be long until this app suffers the wrath of the big boys and we all know that torrents are really frowned upon, so download this at your own discretion.

Apple TV Firmware iOS 6.0.1 (11B511d) Released

This little black box has received a new update to its custom version of iOS taking it up to iOS 6.0.1. It may not be right the way up there with other iOS devices but considering its not really iOS as we know it, it is still a move forward for those who enjoy the Apple TV. The new update which is available to download for free via the Apple TV's built in software update feature doesn't appear to have a great deal of new features. We are assuming this new firmware is essentially to provide a boost in performance and some stability improvements. Apple TV iOS 6.0 saw a lot of new features and services being added to the Apple TV back in September so this update is clearly to address issued that were caused by that. The likes of iTunes Radio and AirPlay from iCloud were added last month and they are just two of the more interesting features that came to this streaming device. We all know that the Apple TV isn't a priority for the Cupertino firm, but the steady stream of updates do keep on arriving so there could be hope for those of us who still wish for something a little better from Apple when it comes to the home entertainment market. Considering how the Apple TV didn't see a hardware upgrade this year we could possible see something special arriving next year.

Most of the talk surrounding this event has been about the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, both of which are expected to be shown off publicly for the first time with their release happening about two weeks later. Another Apple product that is thought to be refreshed is the Apple TV. The Apple TV has been growing in features with each software update and with iOS 7 just around the corner this is set to continue. You can only do so much with software however and at some point the internals need to be upgraded too. We have heard a rumor that Apple is going to release a new Apple TV on the 10th of September too. New York based platform Panjiva believes that this might actually be the case. According to Panjiva, Apple took delivery of a shipment labelled as containing a set top box with communication function on the 25th of August this year. This shipment came from BYD Precision Manufacture in Shenzhen. A week before this on the 18th of August, a similar shipment arrived labelled as set top boxes. Now we know this doesn't prove anything but it is interesting and with the September 10th iPhone event just a few days away, it is possible that the Apple TV will see a refresh too. As with all rumors, we do have to wait for official information and in this case that is only a couple of days.

Jailbreak Apple TV 5.2.1 (iOS 6.1.3) Using Seas0nPass

This new update provides a jailbreak for the 2nd generation model running on the very latest 5.2.1 (iOS 6.1.3) software. Jailbreak developers have been focusing their efforts on the portable iOS devices and only those of you that own the older model have been able to see any kind of jailbreak for this device. The latest firmware 5.2.1 for Apple TV was released on the 19th of March and this patched the Evasi0n untethered jailbreak that was available for Apple TV2 users on 5.2 firmware. The newly updated Seas0nPass jailbreak that is now available for the 5.2.1 firmware is tethered but the nature of Apple TV means that this is just as good as an untethered jailbreak as most Apple TV owners tend to leave their little black box connected to the mains and if you do this you won't need to connect it to your PC or Mac to reapply the jailbreak. There are plenty of benefits to using an Apple TV jailbreak and this includes the ability to run unsolicited apps whenever you want. The main reason that most people jailbreak their Apple TV is XBMC. If you do own an older 2nd generation Apple TV then the jailbreak process is really not that difficult. There are plenty of tutorials available and these still apply with the newly updated Seas0nPass tool. You will need to download the latest version of Seas0nPass before you jailbreak your Apple TV. It is hoped that we will see a jailbreak made available for the 3rd generation Apple TV but seeing as though it is well over a year since it was released there doesn't seem to be anything happening in this department. If you have an older model you can still jailbreak by using the newly updated Seas0nPass tool.

It does seem thought that Apple are paying more attention to this little black set top box and this is going to become even more evident with the next iOS update. The next iOS software update is going to see the addition of Bluetooth support for the Apple TV set top box. It was almost twelve months ago when the code for this was discovered in the Apple TV iOS code base and this alerted us to the fact that Apple was planning on adding support to allow users to connect Bluetooth devices to the Apple TV. It now seems that this is about to become a reality. The lastest beta release of iOS for the Apple TV brings with it a dedicated Bluetooth menu that wasn't in previous releases. It also allows users to connect Bluetooth enabled wireless keyboards directly to the unit which negates the need for using the infrared controller. When you take into consideration that a lot of Apple TV owners also own a Mac and will have one of Apple's official Bluetooth wireless keyboards, it comes as a very welcome surprize to see official connectivity support coming in the next release of iOS for the device. Now rather than having to fiddle with the small silver remote that comes with the Apple TV, users will be able to use the navigation keys on the keyboard to whizz through the menu. More importantly though, they will be able to type directly on the keyboard for text entry rather than having to rely on the software based keyword or using the Apple Remote app from an iOS device. Early testing of the iOS beta for the Apple TV has shown the Apple has only added the ability to pair Bluetooth keyboards with the unit and it doesn't allow the connect from bluetooth speakers or headphones. We don't yet know if Apple plan to open the Bluetooth protocol up to additional devices or whether they want to keep it only for their wireless keyboards. Either way though, we see it as a step in the right direction and as welcome news for all Apple TV owners.

New Apple Set Top Box To Have DVR, Social And iPad Like Interface

This new Apple set top box is said to have DVR capabilities, social and an iPad like interface. It was the Wall Street Journal that reported that the company is working to revamp its existing Apple TV set top box. This report suggests that Apple is working hard to bring out a new redesigned Apple TV set top box with DVR features finally being added to the device years after it was requested by customers. The new box will not record content though and it seems like it will stream content as soon as a matter of minutes after it has begun airing on traditional television. The Apple TV currently offers streaming of content via iTunes and just doesnt seem to fit with the way most people watch content. If the Wall Street Journal is correct in their assertions then this could all change. In order to make the jump to an Apple DVR as painless as possible for its customers, Apple is also reportedly set to adopt a more iPad like interface. With the current offering less than ideal and the options hidden within a labyrinth of menu options, Apple is reportedly set to go for an iOS like interface to help with the adoption of this device which has to date been something of an enthusiasts toy. The main problem with the whole Apple TV thing is the lack of content deals. Apple is rumoured to be in talks with TV companies so we have to wait to see what kind of a deal they come up with. There are still rumors of an Apple TV which could be just around the corner too but with so many Apple products set to launch who knows when this could be.

Apple released a firmware update for the Apple TV device which has fixed a number of bugs and as with all firmware updates many users have been looking for information about a potential jailbreak. Seas0nPass is a utility much like the Pwnage Tool which has been designed specifically for the 2nd generation Apple TV and this will now help users to jailbreak and boot Apple TV. Seas0nPass allows users to create custom firmware files for the Apple TV which renders this jailbreak process very easy and simple to do. There are plenty of great tutorials that will show you how to successfully jailbreak Apple TV. The Seas0nPass jailbreak is a tethered jailbreak and this means that you need to manually put your Apple TV into a jailbroken state every time you turn it off. The jailbreak does however allow for a little more freedom and usability than Apple would like and it also opens the doors to some great new possibilities too. You can even turn your Apple TV into your very own web server to running XBMC. The Seas0nPass is not like jailbreaks for touch based devices and there is no Cydia or tweaks available to enhance the users experience. That being said however, it is a worthwhile venture and makes Apple TV a little more interesting. Apple TV costs you just $99 and it is a really cheap and compact device that does a really good job. If you have Apple TV and you are looking to jailbreak it then now you can with Seas0nPass.
