This story really caught our attention especially seeing as though Apple's iOS is renowned for being amongst the most secure platforms out there. But I guess it just shows that security issues do flare up at times. We have learned that users can disable the Find My iPhone feature without having to type in a password. This means that should you lose your iPhone you can even track it. A total disaster for every iPhone user out there.
This is a very simple little hack that you could try on your own iPhone or iPad but it does look like it is specific to devices running iOS 7.0.x. The bug doesn't apparently affect those on iOS 7.1 beta, so Apple is probably already aware of this major flaw and has taken steps to ensure that it is fixed. Nevertheless, the mere fact that anybody could disable this potential lifeline for a lost device, we decided it was something that should be highlighted.
It doesn't matter that Apple seems to be working to fix this we still thought everyone should be aware. There is a little bit of good news and that is that this bug doesn't mess with the Activation Lock system, so if stolen, even if your device is wiped, it will still need your Personal Apple ID and password in order to function as normal.
We highly recommend that you activate a passcode or Touch ID to keep your phone safe and secure. Then when iOS 7.1 arrives, download and install it immediately. The iOS 7.1 release shouldn't be too far away now either as the fifth beta has just made its way to developers and since Apple tends only to run 5 to 8 betas before releasing the end user product we anticipate that this isn't far off at all.
